President Mwai Kibaki on Tuesday urged Kenyans to unite and work together in building the nation irrespective of the side they voted for during the referendum on the new constitution.

Speaking when he made a stop over at Changamwe on arrival at the coastal city of Mombasa for an official visit, President Kibaki said Kenyans should now move forward as one people in implementing the new constitution.

"I would like us to unite and work together now that we have finished with the referendum," President Kibaki said.

Assistant Minister Ramadhan Kajembe, who is also the Changamwe MP said he was happy that wananchi in Coast Province voted overwhelmingly in favour of the new constitution.

Earlier when the President arrived at the Moi International Airport he was warmly received by coast leaders and residents before he was entertained by choirs and groups of cultural dancers.

On Thursday, President Kibaki will officially open this year's Mombasa International ASK Show.
