New ministers sworn in

President Mwai Kibaki at State House, Nairobi witnessed the swearing-in of three legislators who have joined the Cabinet.

Matuga MP, Ali Chirau Mwakwere was sworn-in as the new Minister for Trade while Eldoret East MP, Prof Margaret Kamar was sworn-in as an assistant minister for Mineral Resources.

On his part, Bomachoge MP, Simon Ogari was sworn-in as the assistant minister for Trade.

The ceremony, which was conducted by Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet Amb. Francis Muthaura was also witnessed also were family members of the newly sworn-in Cabinet members.

In attendance were Cabinet Ministers Ibrahim Elmi Mohamed, Prof Helen Sambili and Njeru Githae and other senior government officials.

During the occasion President Kibaki welcomed the appointees into the Cabinet and wished them success in the course of serving the nation in their new status.

The three were appointed Monday following a cabinet reshuffle announced by the two principals.

Others who were affected were Taveta MP Naomi Shaban who swapped places with Esther Murugi who took her Special Programmes docket, while she moved to Gender, Children and Social Development.

Kipipiri MP Amos Kimunya is the Transport minister, a position he has been holding for the last three months in an acting capacity.

Prof Hellen Sambili was moved from the Ministry of Youth and Sports to be the new Minister for East African Community.

At EAC, she replaced Amason Jeffah Kingi who was moved to Fisheries Development. The former Fisheries Development Minister, Dr Paul Nyongesa Otuoma has been moved to Youth and Sports.
