YES

President Kibaki leads the ‘Yes’ team to Eldoret on Friday as it activates a new strategy to swamp “enemy” territory.

The Head of State will once more miss the company of Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who is recuperating after surgery. But he will be accompanied by Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.

Water down

National ‘Yes’ team co-conveners minister Kiraitu Murungi and Anyang’ Nyong’o (Energy and Medical Services ministers respectively) met the PM on Wednesday and asked him to mobilise his networks to make the Eldoret rally a success.

Eldoret is home to ‘No’ camp leader, Higher Education minister William Ruto and the ‘Yes’ team fears Mr Odinga’s absence could water down its impact.

On Thursday, the President was in Murang’a where two senior officials, Environment minister John Michuki and Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau have broken ranks by opposing the new laws.

On Friday, Mr Murungi pitches camp in Meru from where he will launch rallies in the region. Foreign Affairs minister Moses Wetang’ula will campaign in western Kenya while Finance minister Uhuru Kenyatta will be in Kiambu and Thika.

Water minister Charity Ngilu will be in Kibwezi and Makueni. The clergy in the ‘No’ campaign head to Voi and Mombasa. Mr Ruto on Friday leads the ‘No’ team to Kerugoya, the backyard of Martha Karua who is driving her own ‘Yes’ campaign.
