President Mwai Kibaki on Saturday urged Kenyans to read the Proposed Constitution and internalise its contents to enable them make informed decisions during the referendum.

The President, at the same time, appealed to Yes supporters to reach out to the few Kenyans opposed to the new constitution and persuade them to consider their stand so that the country approached the referendum as a united country.

President Kibaki, who was addressing a Yes rally at Kamukunji Stadium in Nyeri town, stressed that Kenyans need be tolerant and accommodative to one another so that harmony prevailed even after the national referendum.

The Head of State emphasized that being in either the Yes and No camps need not create rivalry as Kenyans agree on over 90 per cent of the contents of the new constitution.

The President told the rally attended by over 60 Members of Parliament from across the country that by voting for the new constitution, Kenyans will choose the path to prosperity, unity and stability.

In the same vein, the President said he was optimistic that Kenyans will pass the Proposed Constitution which had been elusive for over twenty years.

President Kibaki said the Grand Coalition Government was determined to give Kenyans a new constitution this time around.

He praised the efforts of Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who was on Sunday discharged from Nairobi Hospital where he has been recuperating following a minor surgery for working tirelessly 'for the common good of all Kenyans'.

Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka urged Kenyans to approach the campaigns on the Proposed Constitution with sober minds to ensure the country remained united even after the referendum.

The Vice-President said the new constitution would guard against tribal clashes, a situation which painted the country negatively.

Mr. Kalonzo, who echoed President Kibaki's sentiments, affirmed that Kenyans have a right to be told the truth about the Proposed Constitution so that they are able to make informed decisions during the August 4th referendum.

Others who addressed the Yes rally included over ten cabinet ministers led by Deputy Prime Ministers Musalia Mudavadi and Uhuru Kenyatta.
