Former Minister in court over council house

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 13 - Former Cabinet Minister Noah Katana Ngala, his wife and one-time Nairobi Mayor John Ndirangu are due in court on Tuesday afternoon to face charges relating to the acquisition of the official residence of the Nairobi Mayor.

Kenya Anti Corruption Commission spokesman Nicholas Simani said they were due to face charges alongside three other individuals.

The anti-corruption commission wants them to answer to charges of fraud, stealing, falsifying documents and perjury.

The suspects are understood to have presented themselves to the KACC offices on Monday where they recorded statements over the alleged offences.

The home in the leafy Lavington suburb has been at the centre of a protracted battle between City Hall and the former Minister.

At one point, efforts by former Nairobi Mayor Dick Wathika to occupy the house proved futile after Mr Ngala's family rebuffed the move.

The Ngala's are understood to have occupied the house from the 1990s.
