Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has re-affirmed his commitment to work closely with leaders from Central and Rift Valley provinces to ensure peaceful co-existence among people in the two regions.
Mr. Musyoka said his resolve should not be misconstrued to mean that he is strategising ahead of 2012 elections, adding that he is only concerned about national cohesion and harmony amongst all Kenyans.
" I did not mean ill when I said I will work with Hon. Ruto, Uhuru and Saitoti since we all know that communities from the two regions were worst affected by the post election violence", he noted.
Mr. Musyoka said as a peacemaker and mediator he had a duty to ensure that all communities in the country are reconciled and live in harmony.
The Vice President was speaking in Kyuso, Ngomeni and Nguni in his Mwingi North Constituency where he helped distribute assortment of seeds to farmers in readiness for the planting season.
Mr. Musyoka also commissioned the Nguni Rural Electrification project completed at a cost of Ksh. 42million.
He reiterated his call to residents of the area to prepare their farms before the onset of rains in order to maximise their produce and ensure food security.
At the same time, Mr. Musyoka said the government is in the process of constructing dams to trap rain water for domestic and irrigation and eradicate the perennial problem of famine due to over reliance on rain fed agriculture.
The Vice President commended Rural Electrification Authority for completing the project successfully, noting that it would go a long way in empowering the people in the area economically.
Assistant Minister for Energy, Charles Keter, urged Kenyans to engage in constructive politics that would help in national healing and reconciliation, saying solution to Kenya's problems lies fully on Kenyans themselves.
Mr. Keter said it is important for Kenyans to utilize their cultural diversity for the benefit of the nation and not as a tool to fan hatred and division amongst them.
On rural electrification, the Assistant Minister said the government targets a million subscribers by the year 2012, saying over Kshs. 4.5 billion has been used in such projects in Eastern province of which Kshs. 217 was spent in Mwingi North Constituency.
Mr. Keter urged the residents to utilize fully the electricity to uplift their living standards particularly in education and business including Jua Kali enterprises.
The Vice President was accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer, Rural Electrification Authority, Mr. Zachariah Ayieko, District Commissioner, Mwingi East, Martin Mwaro and his Kyuso counterpart, Peter Maina among other local leaders.
Later, while speaking in Zombe market in Mtito district Mr. Musyoka said he will continue to collaborate with other leaders in the country to unite all Kenyans.
He helped to distribute 51 tonnes of Maize seed, 600 bags of relief food and 200 bags of beans.
