Uhuru urges Jubilee MPs to embrace teamwork

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 2 – President Uhuru Kenyatta has called upon Jubilee Coalition Members of Parliament to embrace teamwork in the National Assembly in order to effectively drive the Government legislative agenda.

The President said the success of the Jubilee government in delivering on the development agenda pledged to Kenyans will depend on teamwork both in the legislative and executive arms of government.

Speaking during a meeting with the Jubilee Parliamentary Group at State House, Nairobi, Kenyatta told the MPs to ensure that the teamwork spirit they have shown was maintained.

Thanking MPs for their commitment to pushing forward the Government’s legislative agenda as elected representatives, he said Kenyans voted for the Jubilee coalition due to the unity of purpose and teamwork demonstrated during the campaign period.

“You have managed to hold us together and we really appreciate your team work as demonstrated. The key for us is to recognize that the success of Jubilee government is the success of each one of us,” he said.

“We are a responsive and responsible government. We will deliver to the Kenyan people. Personally I promise to continue leading you from the front so that we can empower our people,” he told the MPs.

Saying the Government has the capacity and what it takes to serve, he reaffirmed his commitment to deliver on all the various campaign pledges made to Kenyans.

The president added that: “I assure you and all Kenyans that we shall amicably resolve any challenges facing the country. We shall especially work towards ensuring that we fight poverty and bring down the cost of doing business in the country.”

The Parliamentary Group meeting also appealed to leaders across the political divide to be truthful. Members noted that the budget passed in Parliament made no mention of Sh53 billion for laptops but instead made provision for Sh15 billion for the project in the current financial year.

The President said funds were also allocated for electrifying every primary school in the country, noting that this would help fight poverty and create opportunities for young people across the country.

The meeting also appealed for an amicable resolution to the teachers strike to enable learning to resume across the country. Members noted that an efficient education system was a key Jubilee Alliance promise.

The meeting, attended by Deputy President William Ruto and Majority Leader in the National Assembly Adan Duale, brought together MPs from the Jubilee alliance and its affiliates.
