Corridors of Power

Monday, July 29, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY POLITICAL DESK
A flamboyant politician known for his lavish style life was spotted dishing out money to some of the participants at a forum on devolved government attended by governors from all over the country. The beach resort staff also benefitted from the man's generosity. Our moles tell us the 'token' was given to the governors and senators' participants as an appreciation for their attendance of the three day workshop. Hotel security were on hand to ensure the queuing to receive the 'token' did not get out of hand. One of the recipients was overheard saying: "Thank God, if all these leaders were like him, even our pay and go-slow, could be something of the past!"

A former Nairobi MP recently told the security guards at a building housing the offices of a wealthy businessman from Rift Valley that he was now broke. The man claimed he had booked an appointment with the businessman and told the guards who sought to know his business there that if they denied him access, "l will gave nothing to eat today as l am broke." The bemused guards were left with no alternative but to all the man to access the ninth floor where the businessman's offices are located.

Jubilee candidate in the Makueni by election Philip Kaloki could not get rid of the way his detractors who corrupted his name to Kariuki. Another candidate in the just concluded race— Pick's Harun Mwau also suffered a similar fate when his rivals referred to him as 'Mwaura.' Both lost by a huge margin to Wiper's Mutula Kilonzo Junior.

Barely a week after Inspector General David Kimaiyo warned that all those who violate traffic rules will be dealt with regardless of their status in society, his policemen looked on last Friday as a senior government official drove down on the wrong side of Kenyatta Avenue. The man, in a dark green Totota Prado with heavily tinted windows was not alone. He and his entourage—two chase cars in front and another behind— sped down the road oblivious of the dangers they posed to other motorists and just because they wanted to avoid the traffic! Bwana IG, maybe its time you put some action in your words or are the laws only for the rest of Kenyans and not some 'hallowed untouchables?"
