Cache Of Weapons Discovered Near Kibaki's Home
An assortment of weapons were on Sunday discovered by a herdsboy opposite former President Mwai Kibaki's Mweiga's home.
A rifle, 2 empty cartridges and 117 rounds of ammunition were discovered by the herdsboy wrapped in a polythene paper bag.
The modified rifle was hidden in a nearby bush which was later found by chance by the herdboy Alex Maina through his curiosity.
The weapons were taken to the local police station before being taken to the government laboratory for more investigations.
Unconfirmed reports say that a vehicle was seen stopping along the highway and it is believed that someone in it dumped the cache of weapons at the spot.
Nyeri Police boss Kirunya Limbitu said the arms could have been planted there by poachers who were operating in Kieni private ranches.
Limbitu added that the weapon could have been used to commit crime in future if they were not discovered.
The boy was commended for his quick action which they said helped prevent a future crime.
The police also urged residents to help the police fight crime by reporting suspicious characters in their midst.
