NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 24 – The Kenya Medical Association is opposed to banker James Macharia heading the Health docket following Tuesday’s nomination by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The association’s national chairman Elly Nyaim says they are comfortable having the Health ministry headed by someone who has a medical background.
Nyaim has told journalists that the association has proposed the Chief Executive Officer of Nairobi Hospital Dr Cleona Mailu or University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor Professor George Magoha.
He told a press conference at Maanzoni Lodge in Lukenya that the government was taking a risk by nominating an individual with no background to head the health docket.
Of all the four cabinet nominations made by Kenyatta, it was only Macharia who was placed at a docket in which he has no specialty.
