Corridors Of Power

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 17, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY POLITICAL DESK
Two MPs from a leading coalition in Parliament have vowed to do all they can to clip the excessive powers wielded by one of their colleagues in the House. Recently, they ganged up to ensure that their colleague, a former party CEO, does not get an influential position in Parliament by voting for her rival. As if this was not enough, they also ensured that the MP does not sit in a crucial House committee. The MPs claim that their colleague harassed and humiliated them during nominations, forcing them to part with cash before they could have their problems attended to. It seems the matter nearly got physical and ended with the intervention of some of their colleagues.

A first time MP was overheard complaining that an influential figure in his party was asking far too much from him to be included in a crucial House committee. The MP told a colleague that he had already drained his finances but the 'power broker' was unwilling to listen to reason and had even offered the committee membership slot to other MPs who were willing to 'pay' for the opportunity. It seems the 'newbie' like most of the electorate are unaware of the unwritten 'tradition' that sees membership in certain committees being decided on the basis of how much an MP can pay!

One of Deputy President William Ruto’s staff at the BP Shell House has suggested that the new occupant of the office change the color orange which dominates the inside of the building which was previously occupied by ODM party leader, ex-Prime Minister Raila Odinga. The Ruto staff member says the color is distracting and was a hangover carried from the previous occupant which needed to be replaced immediately to make a clean break from the past. She has even offered to hire and pay for a contractor to paint the interior of the offices with URP colors of  yellow, black and red!
