Coalitions leaders’ allies rewarded

Politicians loyal to President Uhuru Kenyatta, his Deputy William Ruto, and CORD leaders Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka were awarded with appointments to key committees in the National Assembly.
The loyalists packed the membership of the potent House Business Committee (HBC), which defines the agenda of the House. Previously, the committee had a bigger composition of Cabinet ministers, but with the new dispensation, the leadership of the National Assembly is given preference. Speaker of the National Assembly, a key ally of Uhuru, chairs the powerful committee.
Ruto’s ally Aden Duale, Kalonzo’s Francis Nyenze and Raila’s Jakoyo Midiwo are some of the loyalists in the 32-member HBC.
