Friday, the 15th of March 2013 - News just in indicates that the High Court in Nairobi has this morning dismissed a petition filed by a voter Janet Ekhumbo challenging the election of ODM’s Hassan Joho as the Governor of Mombasa County.
Ekhumbo had filed the petition on grounds that Joho was not fit to serve due to his lack of academic qualifications.
Justice Isaac Lenaola however threw out the petition saying Joho has a valid university degree and is therefore qualified to serve as Governor since he meets the academic threshold set out in the law.
Joho’s headaches are far from over though since another voter Fredrick Ngesa Omondi has also filed a petition challenging his election. Omondi’s petition seeks to stop the IEBC from gazetting Joho’s election win until a thorough audit of the election is carried out.
More to follow.
