Thursday March 14, 2013 - Prime Minister Raila Odinga has asked President –elect Uhuru Kenyatta to state whether he will respect the outcome of the case that CORD coalition intends to file at the Supreme Court, challenging his election as Kenya’s fourth President.
Addressing CORD leaders at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre on Wednesday, Raila said he won the March 4th election with between 53-55 percent, a victory he claimed has been denied in the sham process conducted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Raila said CORD has sufficient evidence for a petition on Mr Kenyatta’s win, expressing optimism that the Supreme Court would rule in CORD‘s favour.
Raila, who was CORD Presidential flagbearer, said he would have accepted the outcome of the elections if IEBC would have conducted the election fairly without favouring one side.
“Nothing would have pleased me more than conceding had I lost fairly. But this did not happen. In fact we won in first round, three exit polls indicated that we received between 53 and 55 percent of the total votes cast,” Raila said.
Raila who was accompanied by his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka said it was not fair for Kenyans to turn out in large numbers to vote, only for the election results to be pre-determined in favour of President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta.
He asked why despite Mr Kenyatta being declared winner, there were no celebrations in many parts of the country.
