ODM, TNA to get bulk of senate nominees

Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s party ODM and President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta's TNA will get majority of the nominated seats to the senate. The IEBC is set to gazette the list of nominees today, giving ODM and TNA four seats each.
ODM and TNA each won 11 seats each in the lower house. The remaining seats were shared among URP which got nine, Wiper Democratic Movement six FORD-K three, UDF, APK and Kanu got two seats each while NARC got one.
Based on their strengths, URP and Wiper will get three and two seats respectively while the other political parties will share the remaining seven seats.
According to the constitution, the senate will also have 20 nominated members, bringing the number to 67. The IEBC is using the lists submitted to it by the political parties ahead of the general election to pick the nominees.
The party lists were required to contain different categories of people spread over gender, persons with disability, age and also adhere to regional balance.
