Jubilee coalition presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday urged Kenyans to vote en masse and avoid a run-off which is guaranteed to cost taxpayers an extra Sh6 billion.
While addressing his supporters at Kerugoya stadium in Kirinyaga County, Mr Kenyatta said the money should instead be used to improve the livelihood of the youth by providing interest free loans for business capital.
"I urge all voters across the country to turn up in large numbers and vote for me in the first round," he said.
Mr Kenyatta said he was determined to lead and steer the country to great heights of economic development.
Mr William Ruto, Uhuru's running mate also said Kenya requires a leader who will unite the nation and end ethnic tensions for development's sake.
Mr Kenyatta accused Prime Minister Raila Odinga of being a thorn in the fresh of President Kibaki's administration.
"He has been making it difficult for the president to work effectively because he is a troublemaker," he said.
Mr Kenyatta said he would prefer to form a strong government that will govern competently once he gets the majority in both senate and parliament.
