President Kibaki has called for sober campaigns as the country gears to elect his successor on March 4.
Addressing a leaders' meeting in Othaya constituency Saturday, the President said politicians on the campaign trail should avoid divisive politics and personal attacks against opponents.
"If you oppose someone at least have some grounds when doing it," said President Kibaki at the Othaya CDF Hall.
President Kibaki refrained from endorsing a candidate for the Othaya parliamentary seat.
"Personally, I am not against anyone. It is not my duty to come here and speak against anybody," he said.
Among the politicians angling to take over from President Kibaki as area MP are Gichuki Mugambi (Saba Saba Asili), Peter Kingara (GNU) and Mary Wambui (TNA).
Those present during the meeting included head of civil service Francis Kimemia, Internal Security permanent secretary Mutea Iringo, Roads PS Michael Kamau, Jimmy Kibaki and Judy Kibaki.
Mr Mugambi and Mr Kingara also attended while Ms Wambui was absent.
