IDA ODINGA acquitted by court for STEALING RAILA songs

Saturday 16th February 2013 - It was a relief for Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s wife Ida after a Nairobi court acquitted her ofcopyright charges yesterday.

Mr. Alphonsius Nyasetia had filed a copyright suit against her over illegal use of songs Sibanduki and Agwambo. The court heard that Ida used the songs in a campaign rally without asking for consent and paying the royality fee.

Nyasetia wanted a court order to compel Ida to pay him 6m for the two songs. He also demanded ODM campaign lobby Sibanduki stopped.

However, Judge Jonathan Havelock dismissed the suit saying that the lobby was not a known entity to the law hence it has the right to go ahead with its operation.
