CORD will help create wealth if elected, Kalonzo promises

EASTERN; KENYA: Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka concluded a two-day tour of Mwingi and Kitui counties, exuding confidence the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) will form the next government.
The VP was in his Mwingi North constituency for the second day running, and urged the electorate to turn in large numbers to vote for CORD presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
Addressing a rally at Waita market in Mwingi Central, he urged residents to avoid politicians out to mislead them and instead support CORD, which will guarantee food security, poverty alleviation, and equal development opportunities.
“Just relax, CORD will bring about a peaceful-people-led democratic revolution that will guarantee true change for the better by uniting the nation and eliminate negative ethnicity,” he said.
Kitui County senatorial candidate David Musila, gubernatorial candidate Julius Malombe, women representative candidate Winifred Nyiva, former MP Gedion Ndambuki (Kaiti), and Mwingi Central parliamentary candidate Joe Mutambu accompanied the CORD running mate.
“After the March 4 General Election, Kenya will never be the same again under the CORD regime. Tribalism is to blame for the aftermath chaos of the 2007 polls,” the VP said.
Youth cautioned
He cautioned the youth against falling prey to politicians out to misuse them through drug abuse and substance intoxication for their own political gain.
“We must refuse to be confused and misdirected by our competitors. I must tell you that our solidarity in CORD will be the basis of the community’s political survival in future,” Kalonzo said.
He said it was time to redeem the county from being “politically seized” by characters only interested in safeguarding their tribal egos.
“Time to save this wonderful nation is now. Kenyans must not be misled into electing characters only interested in themselves and their allies. This is time to eliminate tribalism,” he said.
Job creation
He said CORD government would create jobs for the youth and assist them get grants to start their own businesses.
 The Wiper Democratic Movement leader urged the electorate to vote wisely to ensure leadership is in the hands of credible people who have passed the integrity test.
The VP said coal, limestone and iron ore deposits in Mwingi and Mutomo could be extracted for industrial use to create more employment opportunities and income for residents.
He said he personally had no problem with appointment of deputies of Inspector General of Police Ms Grace Kaindi and CID director Ndegwa Muhoro.
“I will talk to the Prime Minister and ask him to leave the police appointments alone. They (appointments) should be left to the police force to handle them. We need to move forward with other national issues,” Kalonzo said.
Musila urged voters in Kitui not to entrust the leadership with political leaders tainted with corruption scandals.
