CORD warns against electing Uhuru, Ruto

By Tobias Chanji
CORD has warned Kenyans against electing Jubilee alliance leaders who are facing crime against humanity charges at International Criminal Court (ICC).
CORD presidential candidate Raila Odinga, running mate Kalonzo Musyoka and their partner Moses Wetangula said electing Jubilee candidates will come with sanctions that Kenya cannot afford.
The three were at Ukunda showground in Kwale County.
Raila said once elected, he will fight corruption and tribalism that is entrenched in the country.
Business as usual
Wetangula, who started the ICC debate, said Kenyans should elect CORD leaders if they do not want business as usual or maintenance of status quo in Government operations.
He noted that CORD leaders will uphold and defend the Constitution.
“You must know what the international community says about this country. We must watch carefully because we can’t dismiss what they say as malice. We cannot afford to be isolated by our partners,” said Wetang’ula. He added that time has come for another community to lead the country, noting that leadership is not just a reserve of two communities. He termed the PM as a reform-minded candidate who will work for the country’s 42 tribes.
“Jubilee in the bible is 50 years. We now see that two communities have ruled for those years and now want to do it again. It is unacceptable that after 50 years, people are still living as squatters in their own country with dilapidated roads,” he said.
Development agenda
He added; “Three of us wanted to be presidents but we realised that only one can. We thus shelved our ambitions for Raila, who is much better than our opponents.”
The premier exuded confidence that though some people left ODM pentagon, more have joined to form a triangle that is strong and focuses development agenda.
“We united in peace and they left in peace. We want to fight corruption, which has been enriching a few. We want money to rotate by giving grants to youths and women. The elderly will also get money under CORD government,” said Raila.
He reiterated the need to improve education standards by having it free so that the country can expand the economy by 10 percent annually. He also promised to construct a 50 metres underground bridge linking Mombasa Island and Kwale mainland starting this year.
He said this will see five million tourists throng Coast Province. “We also want to have a free port once we have constructed the Dongo-Kundu by pass. Sickness, poverty and bad leadership should be something of the past under my leadership,” he added.
The leaders addressed rallies in various places of the entire county before converging at Ukunda, where thousands of people waited from morning causing a major snarl up on all roads.
