UHURU says he came together with RUTO to foster PEACE in Kenya

Friday, the 11th of January 2013 - The Jubilee Coalition flag bearer Uhuru Kenyatta has said the alliance between his TNA party and William Ruto’s URP is informed by the desire to prevent the recurrence of post election violence.

He said given the pain that Kenyans suffered as result of the 2007/2008 post election violence, he and Ruto are determined to do everything possible to ensure peace;

“Our Union with Ruto is informed by the need to preserve peace in the country and ensure that we do not walk the dark path we did after the presidential elections in 2007,” he said.

He said that since it is mostly Kikuyu and Kalenjin people who were killed or displaced in the violence, a union between the two tribes will go a long way in ensuring peace is preserved;

"Peace forms the basis of our alliance with Ruto and you know the progress we have made in bringing our communities together, a people who bore the brunt of the skirmishes.”

The DPM added that he and Ruto had no doubt they would be absolved of all blame in the cases against them at the ICC;

“We are not scared of the ICC process for we will defend ourselves and emerge victorious. Even God knows that we played no role in fanning the violence.”

“ICC should not be used to keep us off the race because Kenya is an independent state and as such, it is you, the voters who will have the final say on our bids.”

Uhuru made the comments during a campaign rally at the Kericho green stadium.
