Ruto resolves wrangles in URP

KENYA: Intervention by Jubilee running mate and URP leader William Ruto has ended wrangles among party officials and members over proposed nominees to Parliament and the Senate.?
An assistant minister, Ruto’s sister-in-law, a former commissioner with the defunct Interim Independent Electoral Commission, a Nairobi Senate candidate are in the approved URP list forwarded to Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).?
The row erupted on Thursday after some officials pushed for National Heritage Minister William Ntimama’s daughter Leah?Supuko Naikanae to be ranked number one on the list to replace youthful Nairobi businessman Samuel Mburu.
The wrangles involved party Secretary General Davis Chirchir, Chairman Francis ole Kaparo on one hand, and some former MPs and other officials on the other.?
However, Ruto resolved that Mr Mburu remains on top of the nominees list to the National Assembly while Naikanae was ranked fifth on the Senate list.
The name of Adow Amran Duale, brother to former Dujis MP Aden?Duale who is URP spokesman was removed from the final list, after the stand off.
“Intervention by Ruto ended the wrangling, which would have had far-reaching ramifications on URP campaigns,” said a national official, who declined to be named.?
URP National Elections Board Chairman? Nyule Ngumbao said the row had been resolved.? “There was no stand-off over the list as such; it is only the media that took the matter and blew it out of proportion. We have agreed on?the names and forwarded the list to IEBC,” Ngumbao said.?
Home Affairs assistant Beatrice Kones who lost the parliamentary primaries and Ms Irene Masit are on the Senate list. Ruto’s sister-in-law Violet Chesang is also on the Parliament’s list.
Those who applied for nomination to the National Assembly include – Mr Adow Amran Duale (Garissa County), Sergon Florence Jematiah (Nairobi County), Marwa Rose Gaati (Migori County), Violet Chesang (Uasin Gishu County), and Adan Noor Ali (Mandera).
