Police boss wants to be housed in same building with deputies

NAIROBI, KENYA: Inspector General of police David Kimaiyo wants to be housed in the same building with his two deputies.
He told a meeting of senior officers that the new deputies of both regular and Administration Police should be housed in the same building as his as part of the integration.
Kimaiyo said the envisaged police reforms call for integration of both police services, hence need for them to work together.
He later said he expects the officers to be gazetted by the end of the week.
“I hope the officers will be named as soon as the end of the week as planned for us to be able to hit the road of ensuring security of the country,” he said.
He made the remarks during a meeting attended by senior officers based at Vigilance House and Administration Police headquarters and Nairobi Area police command to discuss crime and the coming elections.
Kimaiyo was sworn into office on Christmas Eve as Commissioner of Police Mathew Iteere announced he had retired from office.
Assured officers
President Kibaki is set to gazette the names of deputies of Inspector General and Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Sources said the current CID Director Ndegwa Muhoro has been chosen to be the new deputy Inspector General of Police while Mr Samuel Arachi will be for Administration Police.
But another source said the commandant of Kenya Airports Authority Grace Kaindi and her Railways CID counterpart Judy Ndeda Chebet are being fronted to be new deputy Inspector General of regular police.
During the meeting, Kimaiyo also assured senior officers none will be sacked over the row of new ranking structure.
“The laws protect all officers as far as I am concerned and none will be sent away. I have faith in the officers for now,” he said.
He was reacting to concerns by senior police officers whose ranks have been scrapped by the law in a new ranking structure.
