Kiyiapi was endorsed as RBK’s presidential candidate last Friday by 384 party delegates who gathered in Nairobi
Restore and Build Kenya (RBK) presidential candidate James Ole Kiyiapi has named businesswoman Winnie Kaburu Kinywa from Meru County as running mate during the March 4 General Election.
Kiyapi becomes the first presidential candidate to name a woman as his running mate in the coming elections. The 50 year old Kaburu is relatively unknown in the country's political arena.
A former teacher, Kaburu is a former vice-chair of Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA).
She holds a degree in Political Science from University of Nairobi and a Masters in Gender and Development from the same institution.
Elsewhere, The National Alliance and affiliated parties is currently holding a parliamentary group meeting in Nairobi. The meeting is expected to discuss how the party will face the coming party primaries.
Meanwhile, Forestry and Wildlife Minister Dr.Noah Wekesa has assured Ford Kenya supporters that the party nominations exercise scheduled for 17th of this month will be fair and transparent.
While addressing party officials at Kitale Technical Training Institute (KTTI) the Minister praised the party saying it had a clean record when it comes to conducting transparent nominations.
The minister who is also the Ford Kenya management committee member said parties in the CORD alliance will hold their primaries separately before jointly conducting the alliance nominations.
He pointed out that joint nominations among ODM, FORD Kenya and Wiper parties will strengthen the alliance before they battle it out with their opponents in the March 4 elections.
Dr. Wekesa disclosed that the national nomination board to handle the CORD alliance nomination exercise had been put in place ahead of the exercise saying the local team may be biased.
Various party aspirants had earlier expressed their desire to allow individual parties in the alliance to conduct their independent nominations to please their candidates.
The aspirants pointed out that Bungoma and Tran-Nzoia counties should be coded for Ford Kenya party, Ukambani region be reserved for Wiper party and ODM to be left to field their candidates in areas where they have a huge following.
The move comes in the wake of an announcement by Prime Minister Raila Odinga who is the CORD alliance presidential aspirant that Wiper party may be allowed to go it alone in the primaries.
