Tuesday January 1, 2013 - Kenyans risk of isolation by the international community if they elect Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and Eldoret North MP William Ruto in the march 4th general election, a US based advisory firm has warned.
The risk advisory firm – DAMina - whose members include former senior government and business leaders, has said the incoming US Secretary of State John Kerry is likely to renew pressure to have the International Criminal Court (ICC) cases accelerated so as to send a strong signal to Kenyan voters on the risks of electing Uhuru and Ruto
Members of the firm include former British MP and chief Treasury Secretary in the Tony Blair government, Lord Paul Boateng, a former president of the African Development Bank, Babacar Ndiaye and former Prime Minister of Guinea Kabine Kamara.
“With both the presidential and vice presidential candidates facing possible war crimes, Kenya will be thrown into a major political, legal, diplomatic and constitutional crisis if Kenyatta and Ruto win, only to be isolated by the West,” the Firm’s report on 2013 general election says.
The firm also warns that heavy interference by the Western Countries for the candidature of the two may also spur patriotic anti-colonial feeling among voters and if this happens, Uhuru and Ruto will win by a landslide victory in protection of country’s sovereignty.
Uhuru and Ruto have been indicted by the ICC for heinous crimes they allegedly committed during the 2007-2008 post election violence.
Their trials begin in April this year.
