DEATH TOLL of Likoni ferry ACCIDENT rises to 15

Saturday, the 26th of January 2013 -Sources at the Coast General Hospital in Mombasa have informed the Kenyan DAILY POST that the death toll from this morning’s accident at the Likoni ferry has risen to 15 people.

This is after initial reports about the 6:30 A.M accident had put the body count at 11 people with 28 others injured. It’s unclear just how many of the injured are still in a critical condition.

The accident at the Likoni ferry crossing happened when the breaks of a lorry failed and rammed into the passengers. The Kenyan Red Cross’s emergency response team led the rescue effort.

The Kenyan DAILY POST has also received reports that the driver of the lorry might have taken the tragic decision to drive it into the ferry even when he had realized that the breaks had failed instead of driving into, headlong, into the channel.

More updates on this story to follow.
