Tuesday January 22, 2013 - Medical Services Minister Prof Anyang Nyong’o has been issued with the ODM certificate for Kisumu Senatorial race despite losing badly to Ochola Ogoda even after eating breakfast and lunch with the returning officer.
According to ODM National Elections Board, Nyong’o who is also the Kisumu Rural MP was given the certificate after the ODM dispute resolution committee ruled in favour of him.
Credible sources said Prime Minister Raila Odinga was instrumental on the issuing of Nyongo’s certificate since he urged board members to give Nyong’o the certificate instead of Ochola who trounced Nyong’o with a bigger margin.
Nyong’o’s name has now been forwarded to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as the Senator of Kisumu County.
The move has sparked a heated debate among Kenyans, questioning the reform and democracy credentials of the PM, who claims to be “the father of democracy and reforms in the country”.
