Police in Mombasa Saturday arrested a terror suspect at a road block and recovered a number of firearms and hand grenades.
The suspect was traveling in a bus from Mombasa to Nairobi but the police managed to intercept him.
The incident comes at a time when the country's security agencies have intensified their crackdown on the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) and suspected organized gangs in the Coastal region.
Barely two weeks after a police officer was killed and eight others injured following a grenade attack in Likoni, the terror suspect was nabbed by police at a road block.
The police manning the road block managed to arrest the suspect who was traveling in a bus after noticing a suspicious piece of luggage.
The security officers recovered several grenades which they suspect were destined for Nairobi. Police have now launched investigations into the incident as the law enforcers intensify their crackdown on the secessionist group Mombasa Republican Council and terror suspects.
The crackdown has led to the arrest of the MRC Council chairman Omar Mwamnwadzi, spokesman Rashid Mraja, Secretary General Hamza Randu, and 38 other members of the secessionist  group.
This follows cases of insecurity in various parts of the coast province, case in point being the attack of Minister Amason Kingi during a campaign rally.
Police have now moved to avert similar attacks that have led to the loss of innocent lives like the recent grenade attack on St. Polycarp Church in Eastleigh during which one child was killed and seven others seriously injured.
