Susan Owiyo releases new track ‘because I am a girl’… FREE from your mobile

Saturday, October 13, 2012 - Suzzana Owiyo was said to be the voice behind the Theme song for the new girl child campaign branded ‘Because I am a Girl’. Suzzana has been in the studio with South African’s Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Zimbabwe’s Oliver Mtukudzi and released the theme song on Thursday.

Sources said that the song has been recorded in English, Swahili, Arabic, Portuguese, Shona and French to reach all nations of different tongues. The song will now reach many Kenyans after leading mobile service providers came together with Plan International to distribute the song as a free ringtone.

The launch of the campaign will be held in Ethiopia and is sponsored by Plan International. The campaign is meant to highlight problems a girl child in Africa goes through before being a woman.

According to Suzzana working with the two talented musicians is mind blowing. Suzzana said that their friendship and correlation made the theme song a success.

Suzzana has in the past been working on a project with the girl child, based in Korogocho slums in Nairobi and she says the girls are just wonderful and goes there from time to time to visit them.

The passionate mother of one is committed to working with girls through her experience.
