Mwau runs into hostile crowd at rally

An unruly crowd descended on Kilome MP John Harun Mwau and injured a man. The Party of Independent Candidates of Kenya boss was forced to flee to his helicopter during the incident at Kasayani area in Kibwezi West Constituency. On Sunday, his aide John Ngugi said he was safe and sound despite the Saturday scare. Trouble for the MP started when he arrived at the meeting called by local politician Mwengi Mutuse to announce his bid for the area parliamentary seat. Mr Mutuse is seeking the Wiper Democratic Movement ticket to clinch the seat. Mr Mwau was coming from Kari Mailu Primary School in Kiboko location where he had a function. When he landed in Kasayani, all appeared well as excited youth followed him to the dais. Trouble started when two aides of Mr Mutuse allegedly told him he was not wanted in the function. “In a split second, the group started manhandling Mr Mwau. I was scared for his life and threw myself to protect him. "It was at this point that I was hit with a stick on my hand as I prevented a blow to the politician’s head”, Mr John Lazaro said. Makindu police boss Sarah Duncan said they had launched investigations. Two parliamentary aspirants, Mr Fred Muteti (Makueni) and Mrs Jessica Mbalu (Kibwezi East) condemned the attack. Kaiti MP Gideon Ndambuki also seat condemned the attack.
