Industrialization Minister Henry Kosgey has said he will vie for the Nandi County Senate seat if Prime Minister Raila Odinga fails to appoint his as his running mate.
"I'll vie for the position of Senator for Nandi County should the Prime Minister fail to nominate me as his running mate for the next elections," he said.
Mr Kosgey, who is also the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National chairman he would like to serve as the first Senator for the Nandi County next year.
“I want to serve as the first Senator for Nandi County next year. This depends on whether the PM names me as his running mate," said the Tinderet MP.
Mr Kosgey who has served as the Tinderet MP for 30 years is widely expected to recapture his parliamentary seat if he wishes to defend it.
The announcement by Mr Kosgey follows media reports on a meeting between Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Eldoret North MP William Ruto in which Mr Ruto was promised the position of running mate.
So far, more than 20 secondary school heads from Nandi County have quit their teaching jobs to vie for parliamentary seats in the coming elections.
The school heads say that high salaries and attractive salaries earned by MPs are some of the reasons which forced them to quit teaching jobs for politics.
