Politicians tend to speak on record to journalists and only think about the consequences of their utterances when it is too late. That is what happened recently when a senior politician and a presidential opted to give an on the record briefing to a journalist about the conversation they had held earlier about a deal they had made as far as their campaigns were concerned. Several hours later, one of the parties made an unsuccessful attempt to 'kill' the story by pleading with the journalist and his editors not to run with the story. They refused the politician's plea, much to his dismay.

It is said that the situation is so bad that she does not pay heed to her husband, who sometimes accompanies her on these outings but who is not allowed to share her table!
