There is a looming political showdown between Uhuru Kenyatta and former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga. The stage has been set for a fierce political show of might in the forthcoming Kangema Constituency by-election.
Uhuru visited the constituency today to campaign for The National Alliance (TNA) candidate Tirus Ngahu.
Uhuru’s spokesman Munyori Mbuku said the DPM started his tour from St Mary’s Murang’a, Kiamara, Kanorero and grand match rally at General Kago Stadium in Kangema town.
Njenga, who has announced he will be running for presidency on the Mkenya Solidarity Movement ticket, is also expected to tour Kangema soon to drum up support for John Gathogo.
Uhuru and Maina have said that the Kangema by-election will serve as a litmus test for their parties popularity in central region.
Our reporter on the ground say that Uhuru has been spending huge amounts of money to support Ngahu, while Maina intends to hold a fundraising for his candidate.
Uhuru's TNA seems to have an upper hand. "When you ask people on the ground who John Gathogo is, not so many people know him yet the by-election is around the corner," our reporter quipped. "People have the feeling that it is going to be a major battle, but the ground feels otherwise, this is possibly because Uhuru has spent so much money to popularise the TNA candidate," he continued.
In politics, no one is written off until after the votes are counted and therefore the country is waiting to see whether Maina Njenga will be able to stamp his authority by his party clinching the by-election.
