The National Alliance (TNA) has denied allegations that some party officials were arrogant.
TNA deputy treasurer Dennis Kirwa said the claims by some leaders involved in the Fairmont (Norfolk) Hotel talks which sealed the deal to support Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta’s bid for presidency were not true.
Speaking after an aspirants’ forum in Nyeri town, Mr Kirwa said they were not frustrating the agreement.
He said no agreement was approved by the TNA National Oversight Board, which is the top decision-making organ of the party.
Mr Kirwa said the board was not privy to any agreement entered between Mr Kenyatta and other party leaders.
He said anything done by the party must be given a nod by the board. “We are not frustrating any agreement because there was none,” said the deputy treasurer.
Fielding candidates
He said the Alliance Party of Kenya, Party of National Unity, and the Grand National Union Party could not bar TNA from fielding its own candidates in central Kenya.
Mr Kirwa said they would not block any agreement that Mr Kenyatta entered into with other like-minded leaders as long as it was endorsed by the oversight board.

At the same time, more than 200 youth groups in Nyeri County have called for public vetting of all aspirants ahead of next year’s General Election.
They said only leaders with a vision and dedication should contest. They spoke during a meeting organised by the Youth Agenda Group and the Nyeri Social Forum in Nyeri town at the weekend.
Young people
“We the young people are the custodians of our country’s sovereignty, and this is our time to exercise our powers in accordance with the requirement of the new Constitution,” said Mr David Ngige of Nyeri Social Forum.
He asked the youth to familiarise themselves with the Constitution to know their role in safeguarding its implementation.
