Meru
Prime Minister Raila Odinga has urged Kenyans to mend past wrongs by electing leaders who believe in the Constitution.
Mr Odinga warned that some leaders were not comfortable with the new laws and might reverse the gains if given a chance to implement the document.
“This election will be a defining moment as we undergo a transitional period with a new Constitution that needs to be fully implemented to make us realise the Kenyan dream,” Mr Odinga said at a rally at Mikinduri Primary School in Meru County at the weekend.
He expressed fears that the Constitution could suffer the same fate as other policy documents after some MPs watered down the integrity Bill.
He said many Kenyans were still languishing in poverty more than 40 years after independence because past regimes failed to put in place policies that favoured the ordinary citizen.
Fight poverty
“We failed to conclude the fight against disease, poverty and ignorance because of poor governance that resulted from the mutilation of the Lancaster Constitution that gave way for an imperial presidency,” he said.
Mr Odinga promised to introduce radical policies to spur economic growth if elected President.

“Many development projects have stalled as a result of money meant for development projects in the country go into their pockets. This has dented the image of our country and it has to stop,” he said.
He said presidential aspirants forming alliances in the lead up to the next elections to defeat him were politically weak. The PM had earlier presided over the opening of St Massomi Catholic Parish Church.
