Musyimi ditches DP, joins Uhuru’s TNA

By ALLAN KISIA
Presidential hopeful and Gachoka MP Mutava Musyimi has defected from the Democratic Party and joined The National Alliance (TNA).
The Reverend Musyimi, who has been facing opposition in the party, said he would seek nomination as TNA flag bearer.
He, however, said he would defend his Gachoka parliamentary seat if he is not nominated.
Making the announcement at a press conference in Parliament Buildings yesterday, Musyimi said several reasons made him ditch DP to join TNA, five months to the General Election.
“The draft resolutions ahead of DP National Delegates Congress in Nairobi tomorrow (today) did not meet my expectations,” he stated.
But he declined to give details of the resolutions that he was not comfortable with.
Sources, however, said DP rejected the application by Musyimi on the grounds that he does not have a national appeal to run for president.
The Gachoka MP said he would be squaring it off with Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta in getting the party nomination for president.
Mutava launched his presidential campaigns on July 2, last year, in Nakuru.
He said he decided to join TNA since the party is getting stronger in Embu.
The former General Secretary of National Council of Churches of Kenya is a first-time MP, who vied and won the Gachoka parliamentary seat on a PNU ticket in the 2007 General Election.
Meanwhile, The National Alliance party has denied knowledge of a dinner for Laikipia County members set for this weekend.
Party chairman Johnston Sakaja said party head office was not aware of the said Sh1,000-a-plate dinner at a Nyahururu hotel.
He said the organisers of the said dinner were not genuine members or officials of the party and warned residents not to attend.
