An aide to a cabinet minister from Western Kenya picked a company that did not go through a tendering process to repair roads in the region. We are informed that the aide used the minister's name to manipulate the tender committee after the tenders had been opened. The other companies that bid have complained to Public Works ministry, who have not given them an answer three months after the process.

Morris Anyah, the ICC lawyer representing the post-election victims at the Hague, is in Nairobi. On Wednesday he bumped into lawyer Miguna Miguna at the Norfolk. Miguna says it was an accidental meeting after Anyah spotted him passing. But now a PNU political consultant has been inundating journalists with text messages that Anyah was meeting with Lands minister James Orengo and Miguna at the Norfolk. One text message reads, "To the best of my know (sic) neither Miguna nor Orengo qualify to be called victims. Hii kitu ni siasa tu. I demand explanation from ICC".

We are told there is tension between the Kenya National Sports Council and the Sports ministry headquarters at Kencom House. Sports federations that represented Kenya in the All Africa Games at Maputo last month have compiled a dossier on graft that took place during the games and will soon be handed over to the Kenya Anti Corruption agency for action.

A ten-man gang with AK 47 rifles are terrorising Gikomba, Eastleigh, California and the City Centre with impunity. The youth calling themselves Nato are said to be part of a Somalia-trained gang that has returned to Kenya and live in Biafra's Kitui Slums from where they launch their criminal activities. Although police have received reports about the gang, they have not confronted them. The gang is said to be so brazen that they tell those they rob to go ahead and report to police and nothing will happen to them.

Police spokesman Erick Kiraithe says that funds have been set aside to help officers who lost their property when a fire burnt down their houses at Mombasa Road Police Post. However, the officers have been seeking accommodation with friends and relatives, despite Kiraithe's assurance. A senior officer from the station who visited Vigilance House over the matter was instructed to return to base because Commissioner Mathew Iteere is already aware of their plight.
