Police in Nanyuki have arrested a rogue officer who shot dead two colleagues and injured a third one on Saturday evening in Naro Muru.

Constable Mark Mutwiri was arrested on Sunday at the Nanyuki bus terminus at 5am aboard a public service vehicle destined for Nairobi.
He had shot dead Naro Moru deputy OCS Inspector Hudson Orwenya and Senior Sergeant John Koross on Saturday after being reprimanded for reporting late at his work station.
According to sources, Constable Mutwiri was reportedly scheduled to clock in at the report office desk on Saturday at 4pm, but had instead reported at 6.45pm.
This was after being subjected to a disciplinary session last week for failing to report on duty on time. The deputy OCS had presided over the disciplinary hearing.
When Senior Sergeant Koross, in charge of discipline and deployments, asked him to account for his lateness, he got irritated and grabbed a G3 rifle from a female colleague, Margaret Emathui. He then shot Sergeant Koross on the chest, killing him instantly.
The Constable is then said to have set off for the deputy OCS's residence, shooting Corporal James Kiogora on the shoulder along the way.
He made the 300 meters walk to the deputy OCS’s house and shot him at least seven times in front of his two children, killing him instantly.
The officer then disappeared with the rifle, which was later recovered within the precincts of the Police station with two rounds, out of an initial 20, left.
The Constable is presently detained at the Naro Muru Police station and is to be charged with the murders of the two.
