Vote decisively, Raila urges region

The people of Southern Sudan have been urged to deliver a resounding vote in the Sunday referendum.

Prime Minister Raila Odinga said Kenya was prepared to live with the results of the referendum but is keen on “a decisive vote.”
The PM sent Lands minister James Orengo to deliver his message to Southern Sudan President Salva Kiir in Juba.
He said Kenya will support “the will of the people of Southern Sudan”.
“There is light at the end of the tunnel. The blood shed in your country will not count for nothing” the PM said.
President Salva Kiir thanked the Kenya Government and people for standing with Southern Sudan in its struggle.
Mr Kiir said he was keen on a , peaceful and credible vote.
Kenya has the highest number of Sudanese abroad who have registered to vote.
He called on the international community to be prepared to accept the voters’ decision.
“If they vote for separation, it will be their choice. If they vote for unity, that will also have to be respected,” he said.
Mr Kiir noted that a simultaneous referendum will be carried out in the oil-rich Abyei region.
