Raila security adviser carjacked, phones stolen

By CYRUS OMBATI
An aide to Prime Minister Raila Odinga was carjacked and robbed in Nairobi's South C.
Maj (Rtd) Mohamed Idris, the PM's chief security adviser, was driving into his compound in Mugoya area when four armed men struck and took control of his private car early yesterday morning.
He told police three of the gunmen driving in a Toyota saloon car came out after blocking his car and took the guard who was opening the gate at around 2am.
The gang, which was armed with rifles and pistols then bundled him to the back seat before they drove around the area blocking and robbing other motorists using his car for almost two hours before they dumped him near a thicket at about 4am.
He told police he was not armed at the time of the incident though he is licensed to carry a weapon.
Idris recorded a statement yesterday morning, saying he lost his three mobile phones, Sh10,000 and other personal effects. He was not injured.
Lang’ata OCPD Augustine Kimantiri said they are yet to make any arrest, but detectives were investigating the matter.
"For now, our aim is to get those behind the incident. The victim’s car was also used to attack other people and we want to ensure justice," said the OCPD.
Police would also establish whether it was normal robbery.
