ODM-K leaders defect to Raila party

By VICTOR NZUMA
About 100 officials of ODM-Kenya have defected to ODM citing poor administration and lack of vision in the party.
Yesterday, ODM party commissioner of elections Paul Mbatha received the defectors, led by ODM-K Matuu branch chairman Peter Mutulu, in Matuu town.
Mr Mbatha, who was flanked by ODM branch chairmen from Mwingi South, Mwala, Kangundo, Yatta, Kathiani and Masinga, assured the defectors comfort in the Orange party, saying it was a vibrant party where all should seek shelter.
Announcing the defection, the ODM-K officials said they left the party after it became "irrelevant" with its leader seemingly having abandoned it leaving much of its management roles to grassroots leaders.
Political orphans
"Since we were elected to office, three years ago, there has been no communication either from the national party leader nor any where else rendering us as orphaned," said Mr Mutulu.
During the ceremony, the ODM Yatta branch chairman John Kasalu relinquished his position to Mutulu.
More than 300 new members of ODM were recruited during the occasion.
Contacted, the Yatta ODM-K co-ordinator Francis Mwangangi said the defection of the party leaders will not shake it. "The party members, who are the majority in this region, will elect other leaders to replace the defectors," said Mr Mwangangi.
