Moi urges disgruntled ODM MPs to rejoin Kanu

By Edwin Cheserek
Former President Daniel Moi says Kanu is ready to receive disgruntled ODM MPs from Rift Valley.
Moi said the leaders from the region who have fallen out with Prime Minister Raila Odinga would be given a warm reception should they consider rejoining the party.
"The falling out is a clear indication that party is losing ground and is not democratic," said the former president.
He urged the MPs allied to suspended Higher Education Minister William Ruto to drop their plans of decamping to UDM and join Kanu instead.
Speaking during a rally at Kurgung Secondary School in Nandi North District, he said Kanu was still popular and enjoyed grassroots support.
More than 50 former civic leaders from various parties defected to Kanu and said they would vie for various posts on the party’s ticket.
At the same time, Moi hit out at the MPs for failing to heed his advise not to ditch Kanu for ODM in the run up to the last General Election.
"We in the Kanu had consulted Rift Valley MPs, especially those from North Rift region, and asked them to remain in Kanu but they turned to us a deaf ear," he said.
He warned that mushrooming of various political parties could bring about disunity in the country.
Many political parties, he added, would encourage the expression of divergent views hence it would compromise the unity of the nation.
Kenyans, he said, should advocate the formation of a political party that would champion their interests and ensure there was equal representation of the people regardless of their tribes.
