Karua reads mischief in Govt appointments

By MUNENE KAMAU
Gichugu MP Martha Karua wants vacant positions in Government to be filled through a competitive process.
Karua claimed there were indications President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga intentend to appoint their cronies to the plum jobs.
She alleged that the two principals had lined up their close allies for the positions of Chief Justice, the Inspector General, the Attorney General and the Director of Public Prosecutions.
"We have evidence the two principals are busy horse-trading on who to appoint for these positions which will soon be filled as the new Constitution is implemented," she claimed.
The former Justice minister called on Kenyans to be vigilant and ensure that those earmarked for the positions are recruited through a competitive process.
Talking to The Standard on telephone yesterday, Karua said appointing relatives and cronies to such key positions would not auger well, especially at this time that the country has a new Constitution.
