Kenyan man stabs brother 15 times

BY BERNARD MOMANYI

WANGIGE, Kenya, Sep 5 - A man stabbed two of his elder brothers to death in a Kenyan suburb on Sunday morning.

The 26-year old man first attacked one of the brothers who was bed-ridden at his home at about 3am. Reporters counted at least 15 stab wounds on the victim.

After the first assault, he went to a rented room at a nearby shopping center in Wangige, knocked on the door and launched a vicious attack on the other brother moments after he let him inside.

Witnesses told Capital News at the scene of the attack that after the killings, the assailant went to a pub that was still open and told patrons he had killed two people.

"He casually walked in and told us he had killed two people. We asked him to take us to the scenes and on confirming he was telling the truth, we called the police."

Earlier, he had attempted to gain access to a house occupied by his sister with similar intent, but she declined to open the door.

A sub-chief from the area Peter Njoroge later told reporters that the man had a previous criminal record.

"In fact, this man was supposed to appear in court last Monday over a drugs-related charge but he skipped court and there was a warrant pending for his arrest," Mr Njoroge said.

The sister he wanted to kill was ironically the one who had posted bail for him in the drugs case.

He added that the attacker had been arrested thrice before over allegations of possessing bhang.

The man was later detained at the Kikuyu police station as police launched investigations.

Neighbours said that in recent weeks, the man had threatened to do something vicious.
