Gor fan plunges to death at Nyayo

By James Waindi

Gor Mahia's victory over KCB on Saturday night at the Nyayo Stadium was overshadowed by the death of a fan, who fell more than 40 feet from the terraces to the ground while celebrating the first goal.

The fan, known as Nick Odoyo, landed on the concrete with his head after falling awkwardly while he celebrated Musa Mohammed’s 75th minute goal from the penalty spot that broke the deadlock in a match that seemed headed for a barren draw.

First aiders from Avenue Health Care together with doctor Andrew Juma Suleh administered first aid on the fan to try and stabilise him before he was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital for further treatment, but he later succumbed to the head injuries at midnight at the hospitals Intensive Care Unit.

His friends and a sobbing girlfriend claimed Odoyo had vowed to summersault if Gor scored the first goal, but the stunt turned fatal as he dropped, leaving him bleeding profusely from head injuries.
