'Yes' sure of win, worried of margin

Western MPs have expressed optimism the ‘Yes’ team would carry the day on August 4, but said campaigns must be intensified to ensure a convincing win.

Led by Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi, the legislators vowed to make use of the remaining days to urge voters to come out in large numbers and participate in the exercise.

Mr Mudavadi said they would use the two weeks to urge locals to vote even though they are sure of victory on August 4.

"Don’t stay at home because you know ‘Yes’ has already won. Go out there and vote," he added.

He further said Kenyans should ensure they vote to prove to ‘No’ proponents the proposed laws are what the majority wants.

Addressed gathering

Mudavadi was speaking during a campaign rally in Vihiga.

Cabinet ministers Soita Shitanda (Housing) and Paul Otuoma (Fisheries), Assistant ministers Manyala Keya and Sospeter Ojaamong and MPs Bonny Khalwale, Wilbur Otichilo and Yusuf Chanzu also addressed the gathering.

The team later headed to Luanda in Emuhaya where they addressed another rally.

Mr Shitanda reiterated the ‘Yes’ team would win, but said they are faced with the challenge of ensuring voters do not disappoint them. "Every constituency in the province, including Lugari, will vote ‘Yes’ at the referendum. The only fear is that there could be a poor voter turn out," Shitanda added.
