Two Kenyans killed in dispute over Ghana match

Two men were killed in a Kenyan bar in a dispute over the World Cup quarter-final match between Ghana and Uruguay, police said.

Nairobi police commander Anthony Kibuchi said one man was stabbed to death when differences over the match result arose late Friday between two men who were drinking inside a bar in Nairobi's densely-populated northern surburb of Githurai Kimbo.

The assailant was subjected to mob justice and was beaten to death, witnesses told police.

They said the trouble started when a group of youths differed on predictions of results after the first goal scored by Ghana.

Uruguay later equalised and went on to win the tie on penalties to end Africa's dreams in the sporting showpiece.

Ghana's Black Stars, the remaining African team at the World Cup was knocked out of the tournament after losing to Uruguay in a penalty shoot out, breaking the hearts of millions of African fans.

In the lakeside town of Kisumu it was heart break for Ghana fans who had thronged night spots hoping to witness Ghana keeping the African dream alive.

The fans joined together in wild celebrations after the opening goal by Sulley Muntari.

However the loss brought the high spirits plummeting down with the vuvuzelas that could be heard from various bars going silent as fans were left contemplating yet another failure by African teams to progress to the finals of the World Cup.
