Police recover 300 bomb detonators

Police in Ongata Rongai, Nairobi have shot dead a suspected arms dealer and recovered 300 bomb detonators in what police describe as a breakthrough in the fight against organized crime in the city.

The man said to be a butcher in the area was shot dead as he tried to escape from the police in the mid-morning Saturday incident.

According to Ngong police boss Samuel Kiragu, the young man was ferrying about 300 detonators used for exploding bombs to a female client who police were unable to trace.

Police have since launched investigations into the destination and the motive of the explosives.

Ongata Rongai has in previous days been on the headlines following a series of criminal activities that saw a bishop in the area lose his life last week.
