Matuga campaigns wind up

Campaigns for the Matuga by-election have drawn to a close on Sunday with all the four aspirants hoping to win in the by-election slated for Monday.

Orange Democratic Movements-ODM's Hassan Mwanyoha will battle it out with Party of National Unity PNU's Chirau Mwakwere, Labour Party of Kenya's Isaac Mutula and United Democratic Movement's Kassim Tandaza among others.

However analysts believe -PNU's Chirau Mwakwere, the immediate former MP and ODM's Hassan Mwanyoha are the people to watch in the by-election.

Hassan Mwanyoha will be making his third attempt to claim the seat.

Candidates have been carrying out door to door campaigns with five cabinet ministers allied to ODM literally camping in Matuga to drum up support for their candidate.

The Matuga parliamentary seat, formerly held by Mr Mwakwere, fell vacant on February 5, 2010, following a successful petition filed by a voter, Mr Ayub Juma Mwakesi.

High Court judge Mohammed Ibrahim, who heard the petition, nullified Mr Mwakwere's election over anomalies in the poll.
