Forget Gusii Vote

Public Health assistant minister James Gesami has told the group opposed to the proposed constitution to forget about the Gusii vote.

Dr Gesami said that the 11 MPs from the region had put in place grassroots structures to mobilise support for the new laws.

He said the assertion by the No team that they had made major inroads in Gusiiland was propaganda aimed at winning support from other communities.

"All 11 Kisii MPs came together recently and agreed to rally our community in supporting the draft constitution," Dr Gesami, the West Mugirango MP said.

He was speaking at Sironga Girls' secondary school in his constituency during the Nyamira prize cum education day.

At the weekend, Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo claimed that the Gusiis and Kurias will vote against the proposed constitution and urged Western Province to change its stand as well.

Kenyans will vote for or against the proposed constitution at the August 4 referendum.
